Scholarship Information
The Redwood Region Logging Conference and the California Forest Products Commission are now accepting applications for the
Ron Adams
Memorial Scholarship.
Ron Adams was a 1940 Forestry graduate from UC Berkeley. He spent most of his career managing the CDF nursery program. He developed
the first mechanical tree-planting machine and authored the CDF Seed Catalog. Upon his retirement, Ron became active in educating
the public about forestry in California. He became a Co-Manager of the Forest Center at Cal Expo in Sacramento. Ron was truly dedicated
to educating the public about the importance of forest management in California. This scholarship is provided to students in the spirit
and memory of Ron Adams.
Upon qualification, one $2,000 cash scholarship will be awarded to a freshman, sophomore, junior or returning
senior who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate forestry program at California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt State University,
or University of California, Berkeley. This award will specifically target students interested combining their forestry education
with the following fields of interest: communications, legislative policy, and natural resource administration or education.
Those
interested should prepare a brief written application that addresses the following:
- Name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.
- Hometown and high school attended. Year you plan on graduating from college.
- Write a narrative essay (2 pages maximum) addressing the following topics:
• Your future career goals after you graduate. What would be your ideal job?
• How has your forestry education prepared you for pursing
your additional field of interest?
• Past forestry experience including past employment that focuses on your additional field of interest
and any pertinent extra-curricular activities. How has this experience influenced your future career goals?
In addition, you need to submit college transcript(s) or a copy of your forestry degree with
your application. All material should
be submitted no later than 5:00 pm, Monday, February 4, 2008. Applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. Successful
applicants will be interviewed during the week of February 18th. The scholarship will be presented at the 69th session
of the Redwood Region Logging Conference in Ukiah, California, on Saturday, March 21, 2008.
