2024 Redwood Region Logging Conference Program Highlights

WEDNESDAY - March 13, 2024
7:30-5:00 - Day 1 of the 2024 Association of Western Forestry Clubs (AWFC) Conclave Logging Sports Competition - PRE-CONFERENCE EVENT
​
THURSDAY - March 14, 2024
9:00 -1:30 PM EDUCATION DAY (Conference will be closed to the public during this time)
Over 1,000 school students will visit the Logging Conference from classes in Humboldt County. Students will cheer the AWFC Conclave, Wild Things, and Historical Exhibits. Bus transportation will be sponsored by the Logging Conference Education Fund. Industry Professionals will serve as Tour Guides and will escort the teachers and students to each one of the Educational Stations.

9:30 - 11:30 AM ProLogger RISK MANAGEMENT - Bayshore Inn, Registration required.

1:00 - 5:00 PM PRO LOGGER FIRST AID - Bayshore Inn, Registration required.

12:00 Noon MURAL AWARDS
Education Day students will gather at the Grandstands for the RRLC Mural Contest awards.
​
2:00PM CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT
Price: $50/team.
Join us under the grandstands for our first cornhole tournament. All skill levels are welcome. Great prizes and great fun!
6:00 PM THURSDAY NIGHT BEER & WINE GALA Price: $50
The Beer & Wine Tasting Gala will include a BBQ and a complimentary beer or wine glass to taste a variety of beer and wine. Chainsaw Carvings will be auctioned to benefit RRLC Educational Programs.

8:30 AM GIN FIZZ BREAKFAST
RRLC Members Only Price $40
The Annual Gin Fizz & Moose Milk Breakfast officially kicks off the business portion of the Conference. The The RRLC Scholarship Awards will be presented at the breakfast including the Emanuel Fritz Memorial, Holmgren Memorial, RRLC Recognition, and the Jere Melo Memorial Scholarship. The 2024 Shining Star and Achievement Award winners will be honored.
Guest speaker, Jessica Hinojosa, the Tree Improvement Manager for Sierra Pacific Industries, will share the progress and goals for their current project.

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM PROLOGGER CLASSES - FREE to RRLC MEMBERS
Four ProLogger Classes will be offered on Friday starting at 11:00 AM through 3:00 PM. Topics include CHP Updates for 2024, Forest Regulations and Legislative Updates, Protecting your Investment - Equiment 101, and an Emergency Evacuation on creating Helicopter Landing Zones. Each class will offer 2 ProLogger Credits from Associated California Loggers.
12:00 NOON HIGH SCHOOL FORESTRY COMPETITION
The High School Forestry Competition is in its 28th year at the Redwood Region Logging Conference. Events in this contest will be held at the Fairgrounds and will test the skills and knowledge needed by resource professionals in the forest products industry. Pre-registration is required.
12:30 TO 2:30 PM RRLC CAREER DAY
Career Day will feature opportunities for local High School sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and College students to learn more about the exciting opportunities in the Forest Products Industry. Pre-registration is required.

You will not forget the experience of attending the 86TH BANQUET of the 2022 Logging Conference. The highly anticipated 2024 Slide Show created each year by Claudia Lima will be previewed. Seating is limited - a presale ticket is required.
SATURDAY - March 16, 2024

9:00 AM JOHN IVERSEN INVITATIONAL LUMBERJACK COMPETITION FREE
11:00 AM PORTABLE SAWMILL EXHIBITION FREE
The RRLC presents the West Coast Portable Sawmill Exhibition as well as Firewood Processing Equipment. Vendors from around the country will demonstrate their products and mill lumber auctioned off at the annual Timberman’s Banquet & Auction.

11:00 AM LADIES LUNCHEON Price: $50
Join your Timber Industry Women friends for this once-a-year celebration! The day will include a charcuterie class taught by the talented, Sierra Jackson, owner and designer of The Wandering Board. This will be a very memorable event at the Wharfinger Building that you won’t want to miss.

1:00 LOG LOADER COMPETITION FREE TO ATTEND
Participants in the Log Loading competition must be currently employed by an established logging company. The event will take place at the Fairgrounds and individuals must pre-register with the RRLC Office at (707) 443-4091.
4:00 PM THREE PRIZE DRAWING
The Redwood Region Logging Conference is offering a raffle with THREE chances to win three different prizes. Following are the items to be raffled:

1. Christensen Arms - Mesa Cal. Bronze Cerakote Bolt Action

2. Kimber 1911 Caliber and Specific Model TBA

3. Night Stay, Dinner and $50 Play Money at Bear River Casino Resort
Tickets for this raffle can be purchased from any one of the RRLC Board of Directors or at the Conference Registration Desk. The raffle supports RRLC educational programs and you need NOT be present to win. Tickets are $10.00 each or 15 for $100. The drawing will be held at 4:00 PM at the Main Exhibit Hall on Saturday, March 16, 2024
CONTINUING EVENTS:
SHOW 'N SHINE FREE
A display of TRUCKS will showcase the best of the best in the Show 'N Shine contest. Voting ends Friday at 4:00. The winning truck will be featured on the 2025 Show 'N Shine Tshirt! The winner will be announced at the Timberman's Banquet.

EQUIPMENT SHOW FREE
See the largest Logging Equipment Show in the State of California. Vendors from all around the country bring Logging Equipment to be viewed by forest professionals and the general public. Exhibits include heavy equipment for all types of logging operations, supporting industry, and professional organizations.

LUMBERJACK & JILL SHOWS FREE
Logging Sports provides an exciting glimpse into the history of logging when heavy equipment was a distant dream. College students from 9 Western universities and colleges have been invited to compete in the 2024 Association of Western Forestry Clubs (AWFC) Conclave. Cal Poly Humboldt Logging Sports team is the host of the 84th Annual AWFC Competition and welcomes everyone to attend!

CONSERVATION AMBASSADORS WILDLIFE SHOW FREE
Wild Things educates students of all ages about wildlife and their environment. This interactive and thought-provoking program is a celebration of native California wildlife and animal habitats. Wild Things, Inc. will share live animals and teach the audience about wildlife. They take great pride in offering a sanctuary to many animals that can no longer survive in the wild and their health and future are provided by the organization.

HISTORICAL DISPLAYS FREE
Come ride the historical locomotive and view the steam donkeys as well as other antique logging equipment at the fairgrounds. This incredible display of equipment from our past will show you how logging operations were conducted over 100 years ago.

PORTABLE SAWMILL EXHIBITION FREE

RRLC INVITATIONAL CHAINSAW CARVING CONTEST FREE
This contest is open to selected Professional Chainsaw Carvers. The sculptures will be created each day and will be auctioned to the highest bidder at each evening’s events. The large carvings will be auctioned at Timberman’s Banquet at the Fairgrounds. Prize money will be awarded to the winning carvers.
